We know you have many options when choosing a drivers education school. Our driving school offers permit-to-license packages for both classroom and online drivers education, which means you don’t have to schedule with multiple organizations or go to the DMV — avoid those headaches! In today’s blog, we’re answering some of the frequently asked questions we receive about our online drivers education course.
How Does Drivers Ed Online Work?
Colorado Law says that drivers education can be taken by students as young as 14 and a half. However, you must be 14 years and 11 months old to take the permit test. Online drivers ed is a 30-hour, Colorado-accredited drivers education online course that is required to obtain your permit.
In addition to the coursework, students are required to complete a four-hour skills day and six hours of professional behind-the-wheel training. Freedom Drivers Ed in Englewood offers free pickup and dropoff at schools and homes in most of Douglas County.
The course focuses on broad drivers ed topics and safe driving techniques. We teach students the rules of the road as well as safety tips, like adjusting all mirrors and seats before setting out on the road.
For those of us who have been driving for a long time, these rules and safety checks have become second nature. For those brand new to driving, though, it’s important to start with the basics and move from there.
Our behind-the-wheel instructors have taught hundreds of students and we understand how students progress and what topics we should spend more time on!
Is Drivers Ed Online Legit?
This is one of the most common questions we get asked. And our answer is: of course!
People are skeptical about whether or not someone can learn the skills they need through an online course instead of the traditional, in-person course. But online courses in all sorts of subjects are offered in high schools and colleges. They are acknowledged to be just as rigorous as in-person classes (if not more!).
One thing you should be careful of, though, are online drivers ed courses that seem legitimate and are happy to take your money but aren’t certified in your specific state. Because Freedom Drivers Ed is based in Englewood, we understand the laws for Colorado licensing.
We wouldn’t be offering drivers ed online if we didn’t know that it was just as high-quality as our in-person classes.
What Are The Benefits?
The pros and cons of drivers ed online are similar to any online course. The benefits include flexibility to work through the classes at your own pace and on your own time. Studies have shown that students participate and engage equally or more so in an online environment than in-person. This is especially true for quieter students or those who are easily distracted by other students or classroom activity.
Our online course is best for students who prefer to learn independently and are self-motivated. Online courses allow you to plan your learning time around the rest of your day and course material is available to you anywhere you have internet access.
If you have a busy schedule that changes every day or are frequently traveling, we highly suggest taking our online drivers ed course!
How Long Will It Take For Me To Finish?
Colorado Law requires 30 hours of drivers education. Our online course typically takes students one to three months to complete during the school year. If you are taking the course over the summer or during another break in school or work, you may be able to finish in less time.
