State of CO age requirements:

  • students must be at least 14 and 6 months on the first day of class
  • students must be at least 14 and 11 months to take the state permit test - call the office to schedule a test date

State of CO Drive Test Prep and Drive Test are automatically added to your account but are sold separately. Cash payment is due at the time of service. You can schedule both online.

The benefit to both you and your teen is they are road ready the first time driving with you. Your teen will be able to adequately target, park and back up their vehicle and so much more. Skills taught include: 
  •                   Changing a tire and basic vehicle maintenance 
  •                   Shuffle Steering
  •                   Precision backing
  •                   Contact patch drills (spatial references)
  •                   How to park (nose end, back end, parallel)
  •                   Lane position / brake control / accelerator control
  •                   Emergency Steering

Online Driver Education plus Permit Test  |  $95

  • CO accredited driver education course provided by our partner company
  • CO written permit test (several monthly testing dates available)
There is nothing to install on your computer.  Your teen will work at their pace to complete the course from the comfort of your home at a time that is convenient for them.  The course takes the typical student approximately three weeks to complete. This is perfect for busy students involved in sports, clubs, and other extra-curricular activities.

6-Hour Behind-the-Wheel Training  |  $375

Important Notice: This course is done in 3 sessions, 2 hours each. We believe that student driving habits are paramount to safety. To this end, it is important for your teen to develop driving habits consistent with the skills we teach. The 2-hour sessions are enough to introduce your teen to these skills. Their habits are developed when driving with parents. To facilitate this, 28 days is required between each session so your teen has time driving with you to develop these habits. We equip you with detailed documents describing the skills so parents know exactly what habits to help their teen develop. If this is not agreeable please do not enroll your student until talking with the office. We can make an exception to this scheduling rule on a case by case basis. 

Students must possess a valid instruction permit prior to the first session.

Skills Day  |  $175

The purpose of skills day is to help your teen become familiar with their vehicle. We accomplish this by intrusting skills that teach basic operation and driving precision of their vehicle. The benefit to both you and your teen is that they are road ready the first time driving with you. Your teen will be able to adequately target, park and back up their vehicle as well as so much more. Skills day is four hours long and is taught at the brand new training track built by Highlands Ranch Law Enforcement Training Foundation. The track is located off of Titan Rd and highway 85. The skills taught include:

  • changing a tire and basic vehicle maintenance
  • shuffle steering
  • contact patch drills (spatial references)
  • Precision backing
  • How to park (nose-end, back-end and parallel)
  • lane position / brake control / acceleration control
  • emergency steering
  • driving while impaired / distracted

Crash Avoidance Course  |  $200

The purpose of the crash avoidance course is to train and equip your teen with the skills needed to avoid or mitigate crashes. The benefit to you and your teen is added reassurance knowing they are better prepared to adequatley and properly react to emergency situations. They also experience how quickly accidents can happen and the importance of knowing how to avoid them. The course is six hours long and is taught by a police officer at the brand new training track built by Highlands Ranch Law Enforcement Training Foundation. The track is located off of Titan Rd and highway 85. The skills taught include:

  • Emergency Braking
  • Emregency Swerve
  • Perception/Reaction Drills
  • Slide Prevention
  • Precision Backing Drills

Downtown City Drive  |  $150

The purpose of the downtown city drive is to expose your teen to a different driving environment. A teen is less likely to make mistakes driving in a city as an independent driver if they have already been exposed and trained how to safely navigate driving in a city. The benefit to both you and your teen is an increased ability and confidence driving in unknown cities and a decreased chance of being involved in an accident due to the exposure of the new environment. The skills focused on include:

  • navigation of unknown, busy streets
  • practicing successfully how to use the IPDE (Identify, predict, decide and execute) process in an environment that has significant information to process in a shorter amount of time compared to suburb streets. 
  • navigation of one way streets and two way streets with blind intersections
  • assertive driving, including lane changes

Mountain Drive  |  $200

The purpose of the mountain drive is to expose your teen to a different driving environment that they will most likely encounter in their life. A teen a less likely to make mistakes driving on mountain highways and mountain roads if they have already been trained and exposed to this driving condition. The benefit to you and your teen is reassurance knowing your teen is better prepared to handle the adverse driving conditions of the mountains. The route includes I-70 west over Floyd hill to Idaho Springs, rural mountain roads and then I-70 east and 285 back into the city. The drive is 2.5 - 3 hours long. The skills focused on include:

  • speed control (downshifting to prevent brake fade)
  • lane choice
  • reading the road and landscape
  • banked turn vs. a non-banked (crowned) turn and how that impacts decision making for lane position and speed. 
  • navigation of tunnels
  • identifying specific mountain driving hazards and how to safely react
  • Snow packed and or icy roads (winter months only).
